Smiling pumpkin cookies for Halloween


If there is something typical of Halloween it is pumpkins. A symbol used for thousands of years and that serves as an icon of this popular festival, as well as being used for multiple culinary uses: in soups and creams, as sponge cake, on pizza ...

Therefore, what better way than to adapt some delicious vanilla cookies to give them a pumpkin shape and celebrate a scary Halloween. To decorate, an orange frosting that will be a waste of fun in the kitchen for children.

  • 230 gr. butter or margarine
  • 350 gr. of icing sugar + 200 gr. (to decorate)
  • 1 egg + 1 white (to decorate)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla sugar
  • 640 gr. Of flour
  • 2 teaspoons yeast
  • 1 lemon and 1 teaspoon of salt
  • Brown, orange and green food coloring

1. Take the butter or margarine out of the fridge to bring it to room temperature. Preheat the oven to 200º and line the trays with greaseproof paper.

2. Mix the butter or margarine with the sugar and beat vigorously for about 5 - 10 minutes, until it is white and fluffy.

3. Beat the egg and add to the mixture together with the vanilla sugar. Mix again until homogeneous.

4. In another bowl, sift the flour with the yeast and salt. Add little by little to the previous mixture, stirring slowly so that all the ingredients are well integrated. Keep kneading until you can handle it well with your hands.

5. Roll out on a flat surface dusted with flour with the help of a rolling pin. Give the cookies the shape of a pumpkin with the help of a cutter with that shape or with the help of a knife

6. Place on the tray and bake at 180º for about 10 minutes, until the edges are golden brown.

7. To decorate the cookies, make a glaze: Beat the egg white, the food coloring and the lemon with the rods until foamy. Add the icing sugar and continue beating until it has a more or less consistent texture, not too liquid so that it does not spill on the cookie.

8. Spread the glaze over the cookie with the help of a pastry bag. It is convenient to outline the edge, let it rest for a few minutes and then fill in. Wait 5 hours until it is dry before painting with another color, so that they do not mix.
