What can you do so that your child does not have cavities

It seems difficult but it is possible to prevent children from having cavities even if the statistics tell us otherwise. In European countries, more than half of children under the age of six do not have cavities, while in countries like Mexico, more than half of these children do have dental cavities.

To prevent the appearance of cavities in children, there is no better measure than prevention through the cultivation of good hygiene and eating habits.

For your child to enjoy good oral health and not have cavities, it is necessary to know and follow some tips:

1- The cleaning of the baby's mouth should begin before the teeth come out. You can spend a gauze soaked in warm water over the baby's gums, after the last milk intake and before sleeping.

2- The transmission of bacteria from the parents 'mouth to the baby's mouth should be prevented, avoiding kissing the mouth, cleaning the pacifier or the nipple of the bottle with the parents' own mouth, as well as trying to cool the porridge or puree with puffs.

3- The same care that is taken with permanent teeth should also be taken with milk teeth. A cavity in a baby tooth can affect the permanent dente.

4- Children should avoid having a diet rich in carbohydrates and sugars. That they do not consume sweets, gum, soft drinks, very frequently. They can cause tooth erosion.

5- It is important that children have time to eat and do not do it indiscriminately. It is advisable that they brush their teeth at least 3 times a day, that is, after breakfast, lunch and dinner.

6- Children should be encouraged and made into the habit of brushing their teeth, through brushes with original formats or with colored toothpastes that attract the attention of the little ones.

7- The habit of brushing children's teeth should be monitored until they are at least 10 years old. Little by little, they will do it alone.

8- The child should be taken to the dentist at least once a year for a check-up. The application of fluoride or the sealing of fissures in some teeth is highly recommended to prevent the child from having cavities. Your child's dentist or pediatrician may also suggest fluoride pills.
