Diet, drugs, ointments
Doctors say that today it is difficult to find a child who would not have any skin problems. It is unofficially said that every 2-3 has atopic dermatitis. Most often, the changes on the skin are mild, transient, appear and disappear only on a small area of the body, most do not cause major symptoms, are not associated with persistent itching and discomfort. In a few cases, atopic skin is very difficult in everyday care, the changes resemble extensive wounds, have a deep red color and hinder everyday functioning. They do not allow a peaceful rest at night, interrupt sleep, are the reason for discomfort during contact with other children. Sometimes changes are difficult to hide, and low social awareness leads to social exclusion of a sick child.
Fighting against AD is difficult. The disease is considered incurable, you can only "treat the symptoms" by enjoying periods of remission when the symptoms are not visible. However, you have to keep your finger on the pulse, in many children exacerbations come unexpectedly, almost always when parents happy with the child's appearance, discontinue the use of specialized cosmetics, give up the diet, which helps (for everyone it can be different, most often it helps to stop wheat, milk, sugar , highly processed products, rich in preservatives).
You can count on the fact that your child will grow out of AD with age, but you must be aware that the tendency to skin changes, and high skin sensitivity usually remain for longer.
Mom, my skin doesn't itch, it's itchy inside ...
Parents of children with acute AD describe the feeling of helplessness they experience when a child desperately tries to cope with the excruciating itching sensation that affects not only the skin, but as many children describe it, it goes somewhere. That is why it causes unpleasant desire to scratch what causes discomfort.
However, temporary relief brings even more pain, wounds appear on the skin that are prone to superinfections, which usually need to be treated with antibiotics. The treatment of atopic skin is troublesome and a huge test for patience.
The skin is ill, the whole family suffers
Atopic skin and acute AD cases are a great challenge for the family. When the whole family is put on standby due to persistent itching, it can be really difficult. The problems of searching for factors that aggravate the skin, aggravating the itching problem, include fatigue, insomnia and a sense of loss - the need to accept the child's illness. This is how one of mums describes it:
"I used to sit and roar myself. I couldn't talk about the child's illness because I was crying. I couldn't deal with it mentally. Mega diet, medicines, ointments, emollients, constant itching, sleepless nights, eternal fatigue, I crumble at home like a psychopath. I went to a psychotherapist. I walked for over a year. I roared at her, sometimes I even cried, complained, screamed. I threw away all the pain and regret. I buried that eternally sad, depressed mother. I had to take psychotropic treatment for almost two years. Now I know that this is the best that I could do for myself and above all for my son. Go for help for your psyche. I haven't been taking medications for half a year. I don't go to a psychologist and I'm strong. "
Atopic skin - there is no single method of treatment
Modern medicine offers symptomatic treatment, i.e. reducing unpleasant symptoms to facilitate everyday life with the disease. Doctors recommend washing the skin briefly and carefully, in warm but not hot water, using emollients, wearing clothing made of natural fabrics, and not overheating the child. However, real relief can be found by finding the causes of skin changes (which is not always simple, and sometimes impossible) and eliminating them.
Sometimes, the diet turns out to be effective:
I had acute AD and, please, I gave up sugar, sweets, citrus, white bread and flour completely and everything went back to normal. Of course not after two months. Please try. The dermatologist advised me and helped.
Other times, the cause is parasites and natural methods help
I know what it's like to suffer from skin, indescribable pain, unmanageable itching, you can't focus on anything; the use of steroids only helped ad hoc, it was not a treatment, because the problem was all the time; the use of complicated natural procedures - time-consuming and impossible to do away, but the fact - at least it does not poison the body like steroids; I applied deworming + green barley + chlorella; a problem that went on for many years and disorganized my life, and finally it blew me away - it disappeared, freedom and normal life returned.
Unfortunately, there is no one perfect solution for AD. And this is another obstacle that makes many people face illness for years ...
