Small child

A toy instead of a tablet - about healthy and developing fun

Nowadays, a smartphone, tablet and laptop are inseparable elements of adult life. We're used to it. We are not surprised to see dozens of people gathered in meters, at the station or in the waiting room, who are staring at the screens of their gadgets. Increasingly, however, you can see that the age of users of touchscreen devices is increasingly diverse. Even small children are already accustomed to using a tablet or smartphone. Parents teach their children how to use their devices. Is that right

The tablet attracts glances

A noisy, whining and boring child immediately changes his attitude when a screen with colorful, moving pictures appears in his sight. Even on babies you can see the mesmerizing effect of the TV screen. The child stares at one point, does not pay attention to stimuli coming from outside.

A small child, at pre-school age on a walk with parents, or in a shopping mall shows interest in the world around him, often does it in a noisy manner, asks questions, pulls his hands towards objects of interest to him. This interest disappears when a parent gives him a tablet - then there is a blissful silence.

Unfortunately, the price for this silence is high and can be associated with many complications.

Is a tablet a child's toy?

Already in 2015, the Polish Ophthalmological Society raised this serious problem during the national congress of specialists. They paid attention to significant risks associated with the premature use of electronic devices. This is also influenced by the time of use, but in children, when their eyes are not yet adapted to virtual images, the time of use should be as short as possible.

A man using smartphones and tablets, due to their construction is forced keep them close to your eyes. In this case, the child is exposed accommodation spasms, which means that an eye adapted to looking at close range cannot adapt to looking far away.

Myopia is not the only effect that electronic devices have on children's health. They also appear headaches and dizziness, eye strain. What's more, a small child is very mobile by nature, and sitting at the device is mobility limits, which can disrupt its natural motor development.

The American Pediatric Society (AAP) indicates how electronic devices affect a child:

  • The child has less interaction with parents, which can slow down speech learning.
  • In the future, they may not show a willingness to read books, where instead of many colorful, moving pictures there are letters - therefore, not only will speech absorption slow down, but also reading skills. It will also affect the imagination.
  • With health disorders, AAP also points to sleep disturbance which is associated with difficulty concentrating, changing mood and interacting with the environment.

Modern technology is a tempting opportunity to focus a child's attention on one activity, the view that a tablet or laptop can teach. Of course, there are educational games for such devices, but a much better option is suited to the child's development interactive toys. Among them are children's tablets, which, unlike those for adults, will prevent a child from accidentally turning on inappropriate websites or videos on youtube.

Children's tablets abound in educational games, songs, an encyclopedia, or movies about simple cooking by children. However, apart from children's tablets, there are toys without a screen, and sharpening memory or logical thinking skills, such as a wide range games from the "memory" series. In addition, they are increasingly popular on the Polish market huge globes or maps of the world, which, thanks to modern technology, tell children about the culture or monuments of other countries.

There are also talking and learning toys with which a child can stay alone, talk, guess and sing. The development of child's motor skills is much better than a smartphone supported by blocks and stringed dumplings. There are also on store shelves sets of little botanists, chemists, future doctors. Such toys not only support proper development, but also teach a child to play alone and with others.

A wide range of games and toys supporting the proper development of a child is at your fingertips. Instead of thinking about buying a tablet, the parent can donate money for a wide range of toys that will surely delight the toddler, without harming his health and without disturbing his development, and, moreover, stimulate his interest in the world and focus his attention, which can allow parents a little rest.
