Sprouts for children - winter and year-round resistance!

When there are less and less fresh vegetables every week in markets, there is time for sprouts, which with a little desire can become a reliable vitamin bomb, a source of fresh microelements and enzymes - necessary for children and adults in the winter season.

Sprouts grown on the windowsill in an apartment or at home do not require special conditions, and their health benefits cannot be overestimated. They can use them already 10 month old babies!

Sprouts or what?

Sprouts are small plants that, after ensuring the right temperature and humidity, grow from seeds. Due to the fact that seeds are a source of food reserves for a growing plant, they provide a lot of vitamins and valuable nutrients, which are described below.

Young plants in home farming can be obtained from vegetables - radishes, broccoli, legumes - lentils, beans, peas, as well as cereals - wheat, barley, spelled.

What are the benefits of sprouts?

  • they are fresh - not exposed to temperature, such as mortars, which after pasteurization naturally lose many valuable nutrients,
  • they are tasty - different types of sprouts differ in taste,
  • low calorie and well absorbed,
  • easy to grow - just spend two minutes a day to get plants with amazing properties after a few days
  • cheap,
  • always at hand
  • organically grown and in safe conditions
  • available in many varieties - radish, sunflower, alfalfa sprouts, etc.
  • observation of germinating seeds and grains - it's just fun - kids love watching the seeds grow and change.

Why is it worth to eat sprouts?

The sprouts have been repeatedly and thoroughly examined, viewed under a microscope. They have often stunned scientists who have admitted that these young plants are in many ways a better option because they are a richer option than "grown vegetables". They provide so many vitamins, microelements and nutrients that every "syrup for immunity" available with many unnecessary additives such as sugar, sodium benzoate, aspartame, dyes, etc. - can hide.

Sprouts provide, among others:

  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin K
  • Vitamin E
  • lutein,
  • beta-carotene,
  • iron,
  • zinc,
  • unsaturated fatty acids,
  • sprouts are also a very valuable source of protein - lentil or radish sprouts provide up to 26% protein.

Sprouts are easily digestible and easily absorbed.

How do sprouts affect immunity?

Young plants grown from seeds and grains:

  • act bactericidal (sprouts of rapeseed plants, lentils)
  • act antiviral (e.g. lentil sprouts, cress),
  • act anti-inflammatory (e.g. radish sprouts).

Systematic eating of sprouts, especially in the winter, allows you to provide valuable B vitamins, which shortages may occur in winter. It also strengthens the immune system.

How to grow sprouts for children?

They are on the market special containers known as sprouts, which are beautifully made, aesthetic and are a great kitchen decoration. The problem is that they cost a little (prices usually start from 100 zlotys).

They can be replaced reaching for the mayonnaise jars, using gauze instead of a nut attached with a recipe. And that's all!

The first step to growing sprouts is purchase of seeds, preferably clearly marked "for germination". When we have seeds, we measure the amount taking into account the needs of the family and soak for the night in a boiled jar, closing the jar with lignin. Seeds drink water quickly, so there should be enough water, preferably twice as much as seeds.

The next day we rinse the seeds with cool water (without removing the lignin cover) and pour the water out of the jar thoroughly - this is important because the water left in the jar will cause the seeds to begin to mold. We set the jar so that any excess water flows out.

Every day, flush the seeds at least 4 times, taking care to remove excess water thoroughly. After about 3-7 days (depending on the types of seeds and the conditions that will be created for them), green small plants will appear from the seeds - i.e. sprouts. It's time to reach for the contents of the jar. We eat the sprouts whole - seeds and plants.

Some seeds - sunflower sprouts, radishes and cress do not need to be soaked. Just pour them on moist lignin.

Sprouts after drying can be stored in the fridge for about 5 days. They are great as an addition to sandwiches, salads, salads, cocktails.

Sprouts: hygiene and controversy

Some sources warn against eating sprouts and growing them for fear of developing bacteria that love moisture and heat. Are these reasonable doubts?

You should pay attention to the hygiene of home farming - brew a jar well, and also carefully pour water to get a healthy and valuable source of vitamins. In addition, just before serving sprouts should be thoroughly rinsed under water.

The long tradition of growing sprouts and the experience of parents around the world contradicts the claim that eating sprouts is dangerous, indicates something completely different: namely, that it is a great way to build immunity.
